Earth Appreciation

There's something to be said about the world in general. Is it "You suck!" or "This blows." or even a heartier "Blow it out your ass!"? Still, in the midst of such great and tasteful things said about our planet, let us consider things on a lighter note for just a few moments. Here are a few good points I came up with about living on earth. Trust me, it wasn't easy coming up with 'em either.
-There is no TV on Mars.
-Actually, there's almost nothing on Mars.
-We have great potential. To fail or to do something great, you choose.
-Er... I'll have to think about this one for awhile.
So, there you have it- the reasoning behind why you should appreciate your planet today!

*Cue drumroll*- Funkyality's back after a one month holiday of absolute laziness. But enough about that- here's the post:
Sure, we all have goals in life of where we want to go. Some are physical. Some are more deep than that, but for us travelers with an eye for unique settings, there are places out there interesting enough to keep you occupied. Alot like the White City of Tel Aviv. In my recent travels (of the online kind!) I've found some interesting information on this bustling Israel city with a fancy nickname. Perhaps it's worth visiting.

In my recent travels (of the online kind!) I've found some interesting information on this bustling Israel city with a fancy nickname. Perhaps it's worth visiting.
The picture to the left is just showing off the most unique feature
of the so-called "White City": its interesting architecture. As a result of a needs of mass buildings to be produced, unique designs and architectural aesthetics came into play with tons of resources to work with. The end product just happened to be a city with surroundings like no other. With elegant structure, unique design, and, well, alot of white hence the nickname, Tel Aviv looks to be an interesting sig
htseeing destination. But for a project that became out of a lack of buildings, I think it only shows that greatness can come out of nearly nothing. End of fairy tale moral.

Like these pics? An online gallery of Tel Aviv pictures showcases some of the city's highlights. Link below:

Every day the site has a new cartoon, and if you've never been there before, you need to go there and look at all the days of cartoons! They're hilarious, mad, and free! what more could you ask for?

Strange but true- public law no. 90-363 (AKA the Uniform Monday Holiday Act) is in place in the United States mainly for the purpose of celebrating certain holidays on Mondays. Since its commission on January 1, 1971, it has more or less been kept around to give federal employees more 3-day weekends. See! There you go- the government does do something good for you. So quit complaining!

So, as any artist knows, art can pop up in many strange, unpredictable places- as long as there's inspiration, there can be art! Just like with photoshop- here are a few pieces I've done: (note- all of them are freehand! Yay for me!)

Like any of these? I can also do commissioned work- all for free- just email me a request and I'll see what I can do. Also, tell me whether you want me to use some references of your own, find some or just do it freehand and I'll be happy to whip something up.

Cardboard Art!

Anyone who knows me in person knows that I like some pretty funky art. Hey, there's lots of it out there, so why not love it? As much as I like looking at it, I also like creating it! So, the product of many sleepless nights wondering in confusion about the strangeness of art and more than enough crazy rants culminated to make what I call, simply, cardboard art. It's been done before, by some very talented artists, let me tell you, but pastel on cardboard is one of those things that I think gives you alot of freedom. You should try it sometime! Until then, take a look at some crazy creations with my favorite medium:

Artist Note: Top Work- A piece about a fictional nightclub somewhere... pretty gnarly, eh? Second From Top- One of my favorites I like to call "Artist's Fire". Second From Bottom- Some bearded guy. Bottom Work- A group effort with a friend of mine entitled, "Multiple Personality" after our conflicting styles. I think it turned out pretty well as far as trippy cardboard abstract art goes.

This is an interesting photoshoped picture I came across one day on a random search- in this picture there are apparently some 75 or more bands (whether literally or with deeper meaning). So far, along with some people who've already seen this, there've been over 20 finds! See if you can find your favorite band... Also, if the below picture isn't big enough, just send me an e-mail via my contacts on the sidebar and I'd be happy to send you the picture full size.

There's an interesting little website I found the other day, something that's more or less useless but fun nonetheless to try. Ever wonder how many people have your first name? Your last name? Both? Well, this is a way you can find out. You'd be surprised to find out just how many people share your name... or how many don't. Link below:

Also, here's another link to a site where you can find out the history and meaning of your name. Pretty freakin' sweet, eh?

- Frankfurter
- Pumpernickel
- Sauerkraut
- Strudel
- Wiener
- Foosball
- Dachshund*
- Rottweiler
- Schnauzer
- Zeppelin
- Waltz
For a few more lesser known German language crossovers, click on this link.
*Note- just usually called "Dackel" in Germany. Go figure.
*Other Note- "Achtung!" literally means "attention!" in German.

The Arts are a beautiful thing, whether you're talking full-blown professional gallery stuff or high school art displays- the latter of which I've seen alot of recently, and let me tell you, it's about as close as you can get to professional, if not sometimes better. Check the sidebar for the "Arts and Whatnot" feed for a running slideshow of exhibits from the Wyoming State Art Symposium, and plenty of 'em.
Just as a disclaimer, none of these works are mine and I will not in any way, shape or form take credit for them, as awesome as they are. Keep in mind all these works are the product of high school aged kids, which is basically amazing. If you have any comments, questions, whatever, feel free to comment or contact me via email. I'd be happy to answer any questions, queries or just spout out uber randomness.

The Good, The Bad, & The Just Plain Stupid
Published by:
D Rohn

7:55 AM
In your travels, you'll probably find that crime doesn't pay... and furthermore, that it's a tough business, especially if you're stupid like some of these genuine, one of a kind idiots:
Just last year, an infamous (although humorous) story came out about the duct tape bandit, aka Kasey Kazee, and his misguided attempts to rob a liquor store. Lacking any other means to conceal his appearance, he of course opted for duct tape. As soon as he tried to rob the store, the owner, Bill Steele, chased him down with a baseball bat, tackled him and kept him there until the police arrived. Kazee said he had no recollection of the robbery, but was confirmed without a doubt to be the duct tape bandit. Well, if nothing else, he learned another use for tape- right? Right?
Even when you're already guilty in a trial, there are things that you should say and things that you shouldn't say. And then there are those things you really, really shouldn't say. That's the lesson in a nutshell that Dennis Newton, on trial for armed robbery, found out soon enough during his trial. Although Newton held up a pretty good argument throughout the session, that soon ended when the manager of the convenience store he robbed testified against him, saying he was the robber. Newton jumped up and shouted, "I should of blown your (bleepin') head off!" followed by a less pronounced, "If I'd been the one that was there..." After Newton's outburst, it took only 20 minutes to convict him and condemn him to a 30-year sentence. Again, there are things you should say and- well, you know.
So if ever you decide to turn to a life of crime, at least be smart about it! And if you get caught, don't blame us!

Language of Weirdness

Things you never knew, things you probably never cared about- I have all of them here. For many who just outright are confused by the English language and its many strange but subtle ways, I can almost guarantee you didn't know these few weird words. They say that Spanish (or is it French?) is the language of love, but English must be the language of weirdness...
Melcryptovestimentaphiliac-A person who steals women's underwear.
Pogonophobia- The mortal fear of beards!
Lubberwort= Another word for junk food.
Ergasiophobe= Someone who is afraid of work (the slacker's disorder!).
Anobium Pertinax= A long, complicated way to say bookworm.
Smack= The name for a group of Jellyfish.
Humuhumunukunukuapuaa= The real name of Hawaii's state fish.
Misomaniac= Someone who just plain hates everything.
Gozzard= A formal term for people who own geese.
And finally, kind of ironic seeing as it's a long word by itself:
Sesquipedalian- Relating to long words...

They're Laughing Because of You, Not At You!

Well, as much as we all hate to admit it, it's funny to laugh at other peoples' problems and relative mental capacity (to put it nicely), so here are a few examples that are likely to make you feel better about yourself by laughing at others, you horrible, horrible person! (just kidding)
Strange, but true: a tech support conversation below. Some people and computers do not mix.
Tech Support: "Your password is the small letter 'a' as in apple, a capital letter 'V' as in Victor, the number 7."
Customer: "Is that '7' in capital letters?"
Next up, dumb quotes by (mostly) dumb people. It just teaches you an important lesson: if you're going to say something on camera, say something smart.
"Smoking kills. If you're killed, you've lost a very important part of your life." - Brooke Shields
"I would say that anything that is indecent and violent in TV is a crime against humanity and they should shoot the head man responsible." - Ted Turner
"When I'm a blonde, I can say the world is purple, and they'll believe me because they weren't listening to me." - Kylie Bax
"It is wonderful to be here in the great state of Chicago" - Dan Quayle
"Mr. Milosevic has to be careful. The calendar is ticking." - Richard Haas
Yep. And there you have it, the intelligence of a lot of people adding up to really, not a lot in the first place. And finally, a quote from a man with an itchy trigger finger and one of the worst jobs in America... besides George Bush's, I mean.
"I've been asked if that nickname bothers me, and the answer is, no. After all, Darth Vader is one of the nicer things I've been called recently." --Dick Cheney

Another Dosage...
Published by:
D Rohn

Yes, in the minds of most people, photography
is not considered a "real art" , which is pretty unfortunate considering that there's alot of beauty involved and more to it than people expect. This picture won Wikipedia's 2007 Picture of the Year award and is of "Broadway Tower" in Broadway, Worcestershire, England. The tower's base is at 1, 024 feet above sea level and is a popular tourist attraction. From the top, on a clear day anyway, it is said that one can see thirteen counties of England on all sides. I actually hope I get to go there one of these days, but with all the places to go
and things to do, it's no wonder this great site has been overlooked alot.

Second, I bet you didn't know that April 2 was National PBJ Day. If you do, you have waaay too much time on your hands like me and should be doing something worthwhile other than reading this! Actually, you'd be surprised about all the truly hilarious recognized holidays out there. January 31st is National Gorilla Suit Day and MArch 15th is "Act Happy" Day. Sorry I missed the first one, but Act Happy Day? A little awkward, really...
And finally, a little bit of random (as always) information to entertain those of you out there with slightly different interests. Searching around Wikipedia for about five minutes, I came across an interesting little page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_organized_crime. It details the years of organized crime (drug lords, the mafia, gangs, etc.) all around the world. Strange, because it seems like a yearbook almost, but interesting. For some people, things like the Mafia (or Cosa Nostra as it's formally called) are freaky and usually occult. For me though, in all my random, bizzare glory, I find it quite fascinating. All in a creepy kind of way, but yeah.
Well, unfortunately, that's all I have this week. Maybe by next time, someone will actually read this! Woohoo! Stay random!

(sort of) Jolly Roger

This was the flag of famous pirate Edward Teach, more commonly known as Blackbeard!
Chapel Art

French stained glass windows- I've seen the light!
Hendrix!

A really freakin' good sketch of Jimi Hendrix.
The Sport of Champions!

Finally, a sport for the rich, the bored... and the apparently insane!
